Nakatindi School |
| |
|
This project shall provide desks to Nakatindi community school.
The community school is more than 10 years old and found partners and has managed to build four permanent classrooms, two more are soon completed and the Rotary club sponsored the construction of three mud, pole and grass roof shelters that also serve as class rooms.
Therefore there is great need for more desks for the pupils and class room furniture to make the school conducive for learning. The school is owned and run by the community with little support from the government apart from salaries to six teachers assigned to the school in addition to the untrained four community volunteer “teachers”.
Nakatindi is a very poor informal settlement on the fringes of Livingstone town in Zambia where most people are unemployed and many mud houses with grass roof collapsed during the last heavy rains and Rotary provided shelter boxes to many of those families that lost their homes.
The host club will be Livingstone Rotary club in district 9210 in Southern Africa
Club contact person: Arnfinn Solli solli@responsenetwork.org
Club Appointee: Margaret Whitehead mwhitehead@microlink.zm
The cost will be US$ 16 000 which will be used to buy carpentry tools and materials for making desks and school furniture so a training unit of unemployed youth can be established to produce desks for the school. When the production of desks to the school is completed, the carpentry project will continue as a skills training school in the community. |
